MOQ, Lead Times and Wholesale Pricing for Rattan Furniture: What to Expect

MOQ, lead times and wholesale pricing for rattan furniture — Nithya Boutique Indonesia natural rattan

If you're approaching a rattan furniture manufacturer for the first time, there are three questions that almost always come up early: How many do I need to order? How long will it take? And what will it cost? This article gives you a realistic picture of what to expect — using our own terms at Nithya Boutique as a reference point — so you can plan your procurement properly.

Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ)

Our MOQ is one 20-foot container. This is the standard at which handcrafted rattan production becomes commercially viable for both parties. A 20ft container holds a meaningful volume of furniture or baskets, and working at this scale allows us to price competitively and allocate dedicated factory capacity to your order.

A 20ft container is not a single product — it is a mixed order. Most buyers combine multiple SKUs to fill the container, selecting from our catalogue or placing a mix of standard and custom pieces. We can advise on how to build an efficient container load based on your product mix and target market.

For buyers requiring larger volumes, our factory runs at a capacity of four 40-foot high-cube containers per month, which means we can accommodate significant ongoing wholesale programmes as well as large one-off project orders.

Rattan Materials We Work With

We manufacture using the full range of natural rattan materials produced in Sumatera and Kalimantan:

  • Manau Sumatera — large-diameter pole rattan, the backbone of furniture frame construction. Exceptionally strong and flexible when steam-bent.
  • CL Rattan — a dense, tightly woven skin rattan used for heavy-duty baskets and utility containers.
  • Kubu Grey (Koboo Grey) — smoked rattan skin with a warm grey-taupe tone. Widely used in contemporary basket and accessory production.
  • Pulut — a fine-skinned rattan used for delicate weaving applications and intricate decorative work.
  • Fitrit (Rattan Core) — the inner pith of the rattan cane, used to weave the decorative and structural surfaces of chairs, armchairs and baskets.
  • Irit — a slender, flexible rattan variety used for binding, handles and fine detail work in both furniture and basket production.

The right material for your product depends on its function, the aesthetic you're after, and your target price point. We're happy to advise — get in touch and we'll guide you to the right specification.

Production and Delivery Timeline

Our standard production lead time is 6 weeks from receipt of deposit payment. Depending on the model and complexity, this can be shorter. For custom or particularly intricate designs, we'll confirm the timeline at the quoting stage.

Add sea freight on top of production time: approximately 4 weeks to Northern Europe, 5–6 weeks to the US East Coast, and 3–4 weeks to Australian ports. Build in a buffer for customs clearance and last-mile delivery to your warehouse.

Payment Terms

Our payment terms are straightforward and standard for Indonesian furniture export:

  • Deposit: 30% of the total order value, paid by bank transfer (TT) in USD at order confirmation. Production begins on receipt of the deposit.
  • Balance: 70% paid by TT in USD against the copy of the Bill of Lading — before the original shipping documents are released.
  • Currency: All transactions in USD.
  • Incoterm: FOB Belawan (Belawan Port, Medan, North Sumatera). We cover all costs to the point of loading; the buyer arranges freight from Belawan.

This structure protects both parties: you don't pay the balance until the goods are confirmed shipped; we don't release documents until payment is received. It is the standard model for Indonesian furniture exports and is well-understood by freight forwarders worldwide.

How Wholesale Pricing Works

FOB pricing from Belawan is your factory cost. On top of this, your total landed cost will include:

  • Sea freight (quoted by your freight forwarder based on container size and destination port)
  • Marine insurance (typically 1–2% of cargo value)
  • Import duties and VAT at your destination country's applicable rate
  • Customs clearance and port handling fees
  • Last-mile delivery to your warehouse

Unit pricing is influenced by material grade, weave complexity, finish, and volume. We provide itemised FOB quotes per SKU so you can calculate your landed cost accurately before committing to an order.

What to Send Us to Get a Quote

  • Product references — photos, sketches, or links to existing products
  • Quantity per SKU and approximate container requirement
  • Material preference (or ask us to advise)
  • Finish preference — natural, stained, painted
  • Destination port
  • Target delivery date

The more detail you provide, the faster and more accurate our quote will be.
